Thirteen Peaks in Yunnan Listed in 2017 Top One Hundred Chinese Famous Summer Mountains

Recently, the "2017 China Famous Summer Mountains" was released in Hong Kong. It is known that the "Ranking of 2017 China Famous Summer Mountains" was jointly studied, evaluated and completed by China Institute of City Competitiveness (CICC), Asia Pacific Environmental Protection Association (APEPA), Environmental Amenity Lab of International Culture Geographic Academy and China Public Praise Center (CPPC) in this year. Thirteen resorts in Yunnan are included in the list of 100 China summer famous mountains. 


  • Concord between Heaven and World – Yunnan Yulong Snow Mountain (4th place)

Yulong (Jade Dragon) Snow Mountain is known as "Ouro" in Naxi language, meaning silver rock. Thirteen snow peaks of the mountain successively wriggle, like an "Enormous Dragon" soaring and fluttering, so it is called "Jade Dragon". Because its lithology mainly consists of the limestone and basalt, showing clear distinction between the black and white, it is also known as "black-and-white snow mountain", a holy mountain of Naxi people and the embodiment of "Sanduo", legendary patron saint for Naxi race. In 1984, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain Provincial Nature Reserve was set up in Yunnan. In 2001, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain was rated as 4A level scenic spot, and it was rated as the first national 5A-class tourist scenic spot in May 2007. Here annual average temperature hits 12.79 ℃. July becomes the hottest month, and its monthly average temperature of Yunnan Jade Dragon Snow Mountain hits 17.9 ℃.

  • World Peak Spectacle - Yunnan Luoping Nase Peak Spectacle (13th place)

It seems to be the “happy-go-lucky and fairy wonderland” mentioned in the tale titled Journey to the West here. Hundreds of mountains are twined with cloud and mist, being immortal and misty, and Nase Peak Spectacle brilliantly raises and emerges. In small valley channel amid the small village of the mountain, waters and stones blend. A string of pools are dotted, being green as jade, and tender feeling is filled in the wells of Ganba. Unfathomable cliffs are haunted with thousands of wild monkeys.

  • Jizu Mountain in Binchuan, Yunnan (15th place)

Jizu Mountain, a famous Buddhist holy land, the intersection of Tibetan Buddhism and Chinese Buddhism and the cradle of Buddhism and Zen across the world, receives its fame by virtue of extraordinary landscape and splendor of "Four Sights and Eight Views". It is named because of its mountain top erecting in the northwest, tail extending the southeast, stations forward with three limbs, and stretches backward a ridge, like chicken feet. Xu Xiake, a geographer in the Ming dynasty, had climbed the mountain and visited the resort twice, praising that splendid scenes of Jizu Mountain surpassed ancient and temporary times. Tianzhu Peak, main peaks of Jizu, is provided with 3,240 meters of elevation. It is allowed to view the sunrise to the east, view auspicious clouds to the south, watched Cangshan Mountain and Erhai Lake to the west, and appreciate Jade Dragon Snow Mountain to the north by climbing up the top of the mountain, being appreciated by writers and poets in dynasties.

  • Authentic source of pan-pearl river delta, Yunnan Qujing Maxiong Mountain (22nd place)

Maxiong Mountain, with the elevation of 2,444 m, is the watershed of Nanpan River, Beipan River and Niulan River, receiving the title of “one water source drops into three rivers". And it is also the origin of the Pearl River, the third great river in China. Viewing Maxiong Mountain, it looks like a camel leisurely reclining in the plateau with its head extending to Bailang Reservoir to the southwest with tail swinging in Pianqiao Reservoir to northwest, and main peak of Maxiong Mountain and Laogao Mountain form the hump. By standing on the top of Maxiong Mountain, when you gaze into the distance, show off towering hills.

  • Yunnan Zhaotong Dashanbao Natural Reserve - Homeland of worldwide black-necked crane (27th place)

Dashanbao Natural Reserve is well-known for black-necked crane, wetland, meadow, valley, sea of clouds, sunrise, sunset, Buddha ray and other ecological landscape. In 2003, Dashanbao Natural Reserve was approved as “National Nature Reserve for Black-necked Cranes”, and it was included in the list of “International Important Wetlands" in 2004. The grassland, mountain range, lake, canyon, rime, sea of clouds and folk customs here ha[FS:Page]ve gradually drawn concerns of domestic and foreign tourists, scientific workers, environmentalists, photographers and explorers. A large number of scientific workers and photographers carries their baggage and climbed up Dashanbao Natural Reserve. "Northeast Yunnan Black-necked Cranes Wintering Expedition", the group designated by George. Aqib, the chairman of International Crane Foundation | International Crane Foundation, also entered Dashanbao. Dashanbao Natural Reserve is of warm temperate monsoon climate, and it is cold in the winter and cool in the summer. The annual average temperature of Dashanbao hits 6.2 ℃, and the average temperature of Dashanbao in July hits 12.7 ℃.

  • Bangma Snow Mountain, Mengku, Shuangjiang, Yunnan, genuine source of ancient tea (33rd place)

At close intersection of Lancang River and Xiaohei River, Mengku Snow Mountain, rises abruptly out of the ground, becoming towering. The times change, then extraordinary action of nature created great tea leaf species! Since then the tea was not bitter by going through the winter, and the flowers didn’t fall in other reasons except the Spring. The seasons and weathers vary with the differences in the mountain, being the "green pearl" on the tropic of cancer. However, wild ancient tea community with maximum altitude and density in the great snow mountain at the altitude ranging 2,200m to 2,750m, and wild ancient tea garden in Shuangjiang Mengku Great Snow Mountain, verified by the tea experts from Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Tea Research Institute, Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences and other scientific research departments, is one of centers of origin of tea trees.

  • Yunnan Dali Cangshan Mountain - Silver-colored Cangshan Mountain and Jade-colored Erhai Lake (45th place)

Cangshan Mountain, as main peak of southern tip of Yunling Mountains, is composed of 19 peaks from the north to the south. The mountain starts from Dengchuan in Eryuan and extends to Tianshengqiao Chanel, Xiaguan in the south, being towering and magnificent, and Cangshan Mountain forms strong contrast with beautiful scenery of Erhai Lake. The interval between two peaks of nineteen peaks in Cangshan Mountain generates a stream, which rushes down and flows into Erhai Lake, which is famous 18 creeks. Each of 19 peaks in Cangshan Mountain is provided with the elevation of 3,500m or more. Malong Peak, the highest peak, is featured with the altitude of 4,122m, which is exceptionally cold on the peak top due to high altitude. Cangshan Mountain is snow-capped all the year around, being littering, translucent white in the sun and spectacular.

  • Jiaozishan Mountain in Yunnan (47th place)

With the altitude of 4,247 m, Jiaozishan Mountain is named for the mountain shape looks like bridal sedan chair placed in the mountains. During Tang Dynasty, Wang Yimou, the king of Nanzhao, sought and dubbed it to be Dongyue Mountain. The elevation of main peak of Jiaozi Mountain hits 4,223.4m, being the first peak in Yunnan and typical mountain-shaped glacier landscape. Jiaozi Mountain is located amid Xiaojiang Fault Zone and Puduhe Fault Zone. The combination of special geological structure and geological evolution, complex topography and high altitude enables Jiaozi Snow Mountain to form simultaneously changing meteorological characteristics, being well known for high mountain and lake, world of ice and snow, forest of azaleas, primeval forest, alpine meadow, sea of clouds, sunrise, Buddha and other strange landscape. Average temperature of Jiaozi Mountain in the summer is 3-13℃, and there is significant temperature difference between day and night. Tourists may travel light, and always remember to bring the sunscreen.

Location: Boundary between southwest of Dongchuan District and Luquan County, Kunming City, Yunnan Province.


  • Laojunshan Mountain, Lijiang, Yunnan (53rd place)

It is one of eight areas of world natural heritage “concurrent flowing of three rivers”. Main peak is located in the middle of Jinsichang Originality Scenery Zone, and the altitude of “Jinsiyu Peak” hits 4,515m, being called "the ancestors of Yunnan-based mountains" by ancient historians, and it is named for Ultra Supreme Elder Lord ever developed elixir here. Laojun Mountain is Danxia landform area with largest area and highest altitude in China till now. Colorful folk customs of ample alpine vegetation, rare animals and plants, various glacial lakes, fantastic Danxia landform and Naxi Nationality, Bai Nationality, Lisu Nationality, Pumi N[FS:Page]ationality and Ethnic Yi constitute unique landscape of scenic area of Laojun Mountain with great ornamental value and scientific research value.

  • Yunnan Tonghaixiu Mountain - Broad plaque-shaped mountain (66th place)

Tonghaixiu Mountian, an important scenic spot in Yuxi area, is featured with the peak elevation of 2,060m, vertical height of 200m approximately, jurisdiction area of 7.6 square kilometers, tour area of 1,550,000 square meters and construction area of over 5 square meters. Tonghaixiu Mountain, together with Jinma Mountain and Biji Mountain in Kunming and Cangshan Mountain in Dali were called four largest famed mountains in Ming Dynasty, and it has been receiving the reputation of “Top Scenic View in Yunnan".

  • Yunnan Shipingxiu Mountain - top scene extending the south of Yunnan (67th place)

Shipingxiu Mountain is one of famous mountains and resorts in southern Yunnan. Zhenjue Temple was built in Hongwu Emperor Period of Ming Dynasty, and repeatedly rebuilt in Qing Dynasty. The existing ancient buildings include main gate, the main hall and Lingyun pavilion. Sakyamuni portrait is cared in main wall, and the statue of Buddha Samantabhadra and Buddha Manjusri are built on both sides. Overlooking Baoxiucheng Town, cottages are visible in eyes. Shipingxiu Mountain was awarded as cultural relics protection unit of Honghe Hani Nationality and Yi Autonomous Prefecture in 1983. The forests in the mountain are dense. Woods show their beauty, and rare flowers and grasses are available in four seas. Shiping Mountain are hidden and shown amid misty white clouds, being of elegant landscape and beautiful scenery.

  • Guniu Mountain, Dongchuan, Yunnan --- boundless clouds (87th place)

Guniu Mountain is featured with overlapped hills, steep cliffs and towering peaks, surrounded with shrouded clouds. When it is a sunny day, verdant view appears, and it is visible in remote distance. On the summit of mountain with “extreme distance” to the bottom of the sky, there are cottages where ethnic minorities live, and they are hidden on the top of the mountain by clouds in the year around. Guniu Mountian, tall and straight, looks like a natural barrier dominating the sky and the world, distinctively distinguishing the sun, rain, dusk and dawn, and devoursing constantly visiting sun and moon. In addition to grand, splendid and beautiful natural scenery, simple, naïve and plain mountain people, beautiful and magic tales and folk customs full of charms of Guniu Mountain are also fascinating.

  • Junzi Mountain in Shizong, Yunnan (90th), vast fields of azaleas

Junzi Mountain is top peak in Shizong County. The vast fields of azaleas move the people in corners of China, and valuable and precious trees are distributed everywhere of fields of the mountain. The plateau and meadow are full of exotic favor, and the sceneries in four seasons are attractive. Vegetation are preserved to be relatively intact here. Junzi Mountain is the largest natural Rhododendron community and biggest original ecological camp in Yunnan, and it is also the tallest simulated mushroom complex of buildings in the world. Junzi Mountain is high mountain gorge scenic area. The area of the mountain is a subtropical plateau monsoon climate. Various climate types are available due to the influences of terrain height and micro topography, and average temperature hits 14 ℃. It is spring-like weather here in all the year around, and it is suitable for travel in all four seasons.
